“It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
I keep making mistakes. But today I read the above quote by Emerson with a deeper understanding and appreciation for living in a balance of my own independent fulfillment, while having deep connection with the world around me. Yet still, there is an ocean of curiosity and future learning around what it means to truly share my inner strength and abilities with the world. I have this idea in my head that I can, that I do, bring empathy and authenticity to everything and everyone I touch ... and hopefully put a positive dent on this world.
What I am realizing, is that in order to do this, I need people a lot more than I ever realized. I need good people. I need people who speak for themselves and stand up for something. To have the courage to speak their mind and fight for what they believe in. To face fear head on. I need people that, as Chuck Palahniuk says, “force themselves to grow.... To explode their comfort zone.” I need this in my life to constantly push me, and inspire me to find the perfect sweetness of independence within the crowd. Those people who want to live their life RIGHT NOW.
What is even more difficult for me to acknowledge sometimes, is that people need me just as much.
They need me to live up to my potential, and to push the boundaries of what is possible. They need me inspire them to be the best possible version of who they truly are. To listen to their dreams and to give them a safe place to share those dreams. To push, and prod, and challenge them. To laugh and cry and give them high-fives. To be spontaneous and let that fire burn way past the midnight oil.
So every day, I wake up with a goal to be happy and to be intentional. To explore my potential in solitude and to reach for the stars in the midst of the crowd. It is a conscious choice to be brave and spend REAL time on our own… away from everything else. It is a massive act of bravery to take the beauty of what we have learned, and bring that into the world. To share it with open arms. To learn. To give. To accept. And to be vulnerable. I want all of you to be as great as you possibly can!!!
Will you help me do the same?
